Hey mama, I see you over there with those dark eye circles from baby waking up fifteen hundred times last night. Your skin is looking a little dry and actually your lips are too and wow, are those roots your real hair color?
Hang in there, sister, this 5-minute beauty routine for new moms will make you look and feel human in no time!

First things first – I promise that no one notices as much as you. To most
people around you, you look like an absolutely magnificent Mama to an infant.
People from a distance will think you are magical, beautiful and captivating
without even having to try. If there’s one thing the general public loves more
than pregnant mamas, it’s mamas of brand-new babies.
BUT, it’s not about them it’s about YOU and you need a pick me up. When my first baby was tiny, my husband was still in New York, so I really had no one to impress. But as a creature of habit and routine, I knew It would be important to put some structure into my days with the newbie.
I typically woke up and had coffee and made breakfast and then put her down for a quick nap. During this time, I would take a super quick shower and put some makeup on. It might seem pointless given that I was living alone, but this 5-minute beauty routine for new moms helped me feel like myself.
It forced me to take a few minutes for self-care, and it was essential in my post-partum recovery process.
This makeup routine only takes 5-minutes and made me feel like a million bucks during this necessarily selfless phase of my life.

- Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Our skin is our largest organ, and it’s the first place to show lack of vitamins, hydration and sleep. A really amazing moisturizer is the first step in an easy beauty routine for new moms. The Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream Crème is amazing and really works on most skin types. If you have 30 extra seconds, adding a serum like this Lancome one can be a game changer.
- Kill the under-eye circles. While your skin is the first place to show lack of hydration and nutrients, under-eye circles are a clear display of the sleepless nights of new mommyhood. For me, looking less tired always makes me feel less tired and this hydrating undereye concealer is waterproof and really does last all day. This Lancome concealer is waterproof and lasts all day.
- Quick splash of color on the cheeks. Thanks to the advent of blush stick, this is one of the most simple and quickest things you can do to give your appearance a pick me up, and you don’t need to be a pro to apply.
- Mascara helps immensely with zombie eyes. I love They’re Real by Benefit, because it doesn’t smear but comes off easily at the end of the day.
- Quick infusion of hydrating color to the lips serves as a moisturizer and pop of color to make you feel like a human. My go to color is the Laura Mercier Sheer in Baby Lips, but the good ole’ Clinque Almost Lipstick is also awesome.
It was also around this time that I switched from aluminum-containing antiperspirant and chemical infused body lotion to much more natural products. I’m definitely not the crunchiest mom out there, but I was nursing and those chemicals were just too close to baby for my liking at the time. The Lavanilla Sport Healthy Deodorant actually works super well and Everyone Lotion is super cheap and found at many grocery and health food stores.
I also discovered apps like Think Dirty and ShopWell to help me figure out what kinds of ingredients are really in bath and food products. I realize it’s possible to realllly go down a rabbit hole when it comes to trying to understand every potentially harmful ingredient in everything in our house, so I try to use in moderation and just be educated about things that are most important to me. Let’s be honest – at the end of the day, I’m still having my glass (or two!) of vino.
Taking time for self-care and relationships is critically important as a new Mom. Taking a few minutes for your self each day will help you be a better, more energized Mom.
